Hebrews 10

1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.

2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.

3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.

4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.

What are they talking about? In the Old Testament, the standard for remission or forgiveness of sins were sacrifices like bulls and goats; (Leviticus 4)

5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:

 

(In Reference)- Wherefore when he come to the world, he says, Sacrifices and offering you would not, but a body have you prepared me: ( Body of Jesus)

 

6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.

 

(In Reference)- In burnt offering and sacrifices for sin you had no pleasure.

 

7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.

 

(In Reference)- Then said I, Look, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do your will, O God.

 

8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;

 

(In Reference)- Above when he said, Sacrifices and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin you would not, neither had pleasure there-in, which are offered by the law;

 

9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.

 

(In Reference)- Then said he, Look, I come to do your will, O God, He take away the first, that he may establish the second.

 

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

 

(In Reference)- By the which will, we are holy through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.

 

11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

 

(In Reference)- And every priest stand daily ministering and offering often times the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:

 

( In other words) We priest and ministers are often offering the same sacrifice ( The law to the lost souls) which cannot take away their sins.

 

12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

 

(In Reference)- But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sin for ever, sat on the right hand of God;

 

13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.

 

(In Reference)- From hereafter expecting until his enemies be made his footstool.

 

14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

 

(In Reference)- For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

 

(In other words) By one mans righteous death (under a sinful world), he has perfected FOREVER them that are holy.

 

15 Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

 

(In Reference)- Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before,

 

( In other words) The Holy Ghost is a witness to us, ( Ourselves) that we are sanctified. ( set apart as or declare holy; consecrate.; free from sin; purify.

 

 

16 This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

 

(In Reference)- This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws in their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

 

17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

 

(In Reference)- And their sins and evil behavior will I remember no more.

 

18 Now where remission of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

 

(In Reference)- Now where forgiveness of these is, there is no more offering for sin.

 

19 Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus,

 

(In Reference)- Having therefore, siblings, boldness to enter into the holiness by the blood of Jesus,

 

20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

 

(In Reference)- By a new and living way, which he has declared for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh;

 

21 And having an high priest over the house of God;

 

(In Reference)- And having an high priest over the house of God; (Jesus Christ)

 

22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.

 

(In Reference)- Let us come near with a true heart in the full confidence of faith, having our hearts lightly washed from evil thoughts, and our bodies washed with cleansed water.

 

What is this pure water? Jesus if the Living Water

 

23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

 

(In Reference)- Let us hold fast the calling of our faith without moving; ( for he is faithful that promised;)

 

24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

 

(In Reference)- And let us think about one another, to call forth unto love and good works:

 

25 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

 

(In Reference)- Not leaving the gathering of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but uplifting one another: and so much the more, as you see the day coming.

 

26 For if we sin willfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,

 

(In Reference)-For if we sin willingly after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remain no more sacrifice for sins,

 

27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.

 

(In Reference)- But a certain fearful looking forward of judgement and flaming displeasure, which will consume the devils.

 

( In other words) If you decide to willingly sin after you have been taught the truth, and been redeemed. Then there is no remission of sins for you, but a blazing displeasure, which in the end result, will demolish the enemies.

 

28 He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

 

(In Reference)- He that hated Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:

 

( in other words) Those who disrespected the Law of Moses DIED with no compassion or forgiveness and two or three people witnessed it.

 

29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?

 

(In Reference)- Of how much extreme punishment, suppose you, will he who he be thought worthy, who has walked under the foot of the Son of God, and has been counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was set apart, an unholy things, and has done in spite to the Spirit of grace?

 

( In other words) How much more of an extreme punishment will he, who he redeemed, walked in Christ with him, and has been counted in the blood of the covenant, where he WAS holy, and unholy thing, has done; despite being under the Spirit of grace?

 

30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.

 

(In Reference)- For we know him, that has said, revenge belongs to me, I will repay, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord will judge his people.

 

31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

 

(In Reference)- It is a fearful things to fall in the hand of the living God.

 

32 But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after ye were illuminated, ye endured a great fight of afflictions;

 

(In Reference)- But call to remembrance the previous days, in which, after you were brighten, you endured a great fight of distress;

 

33 Partly, whilst ye were made a gazingstock both by reproaches and afflictions; and partly, whilst ye became companions of them that were so used.

 

(In Reference)- Partly, while you were made a public spectacle both by those who disapproved and distresses; and partly, while you became associates of them that were so used.

 

34 For ye had compassion of me in my bonds, and took joyfully the spoiling of your goods, knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better and an enduring substance.

 

(In Reference)- For you had compassion of me in my chains, and took with great pleasure of your goods, knowing in yourselves that you have in heaven, a better and more long-lasting material.

 

35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.

 

(In Reference)- Cast not away then you confidence, which has great repayment if reward.

 

(In other words) Keep going; Don’t give up!

 

36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

 

(In Reference)- For you have need of patience, that, after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise.

 

37 For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry.

 

(In Reference)- For a little while, and he that will come will come, and he will not wait.

 

(in other words) If you wait; just a little while, he will not take long.

 

38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

 

(In Reference)- Now the just will live by faith: but if any man go back, my soul will have no pleasure in him.

 

( In other words) The RIGHTEOUS will LIVE by FAITH; but if you go back, God will have no pleasure in you.

 

39 But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul.

 

(In Reference)- But we are not of them who go back into ruin; but of them that believe to the saving of the souls.

 

(In other words) We are not people who go back into the world (of damnation) but we are them who believe in the saving of souls; and God's saving of our soul.
