Proverbs 1

"The proverbs of Solomon the son of David, king of Israel;"

 

In Reference: "The truth of Solomon, who was the son of David, who was king of Israel.(B.C)"

 

"To know wisdom and instruction; to perceive the words of understanding;"

 

In Reference: "To know wisdom and instructions; to be able to adequately understand;"

 

"To receive the instruction of wisdom, justice, and judgment, and equity;"

 

In Reference: “To receive the ways to obtain wisdom, and just behavior and fair judgement and equity;” (being unbiased)

 

"To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion."

 

In Reference: "To leave wickedness to the simple and give to the young man knowledge and discretion.”

 

"A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:"

 

In Reference: "A wise man will listen and will grow more in learning; and a man of understanding will reach out unto wise counsels."

 

"To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings."

 

In Reference: “To understand the truth, and to understand the meaning of the words of the wise and their dark sayings.”

 

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction."

 

"In Reference: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; but fools will turn their back on wisdom and instruction.”

 

"My son, hear the instruction of thy father, and forsake not the law of thy mother:"

 

In Reference: "My child, hear the direction of your father, and don’t leave or forget the words of your mother.”

 

"For they shall be an ornament of grace unto thy head, and chains about thy neck."

 

In Reference: "For they will be like decoration of elegance to your head, and chains around your neck."

 

"My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not."

 

In Reference: "My (child), if wrong doers tempt you or try to convince you, do not agree."

 

"If they say, Come with us, let us lay wait for blood, let us lurk privily for the innocent without cause:"

 

In Reference: If they say, come with us, let us come together and plan privately to afflict the innocent without a cause."

 

"Let us swallow them up alive as the grave; and whole, as those that go down into the pit:"

 

In Reference: "Let us devour them up alive as the dead; and whole, as those that go down into the pit."

 

"We shall find all precious substance, we shall fill our houses with spoil:"

 

In Reference: "We shall possess all precious things; we will fill our homes with riches."

 

"Cast in thy lot among us; let us all have one purse:"

 

In Reference: "Cast in your money with us; let us all share the same bag."

 

"My son, walk not thou in the way with them; refrain thy foot from their path:"

 

In Reference: "My son, walk not in the way with them; keep your feet from their path."

 

(In conclusion: Don't follow them.)

 

"For their feet run to evil, and make haste to shed blood."

 

In Reference: "For their feet run to do evil and is quick to shed blood."

 

"Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird."

 

In reference: "For sure; in vain the net is spread in sight to catch ANY."

 

(In conclusion): "It'll be a net for your own life." or " that net could fall on anyone."

 

"And they lay wait for their own blood; they lurk privily for their own lives."

 

In Reference: "And they lay (and) wait for their own blood; they look privately for their own lives."

 

"So are the ways of every one that is greedy of gain; which taketh away the life of the owners thereof."

 

In Reference: "So are the ways of everyone who is eager to gain; which takes away the life of another."

 

"Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets:"

 

In Reference: "Wisdom is crying out to the public for all who want it."

 

"She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,"

 

In Reference: "She cries in the high place of the crowd, in the opening of the gates: in the city she speaks her words, saying,"

 

"How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge?"

 

In Reference: "How long, you simple-minded ones, will you love simpleness? And someone who ridicules other enjoys insulting, and fools hate learning?"

 

"Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you."

 

In Reference: “Turn you at my warning: Look, I will pour out my spirit into you, I will make known to you, my ways.”

 

"Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;"

 

In Reference: "Because I have called, and you have refused; I have stretch out my hand, and no man accepted."

 

"But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:"

 

In Reference: "But you have said no to all my advice and would hear none of my warnings."

 

"I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh;"

 

In Reference: "I also will laugh at your trouble; I will tease you when your fear comes."

 

"When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you."

 

In Reference: "When your fear cometh as emptiness, and your destruction comes as an insane storm; when extreme agony and severe torment comes to you."

 

"Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me:"

 

In Reference: "Then will they call on me, but I will not respond to them; they will search me early, but they will not find me."

 

"For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord:"

 

In Reference: "For they hated learning, and did not choose the fear of the Lord."

 

"They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof."

 

In Reference: "They wouldn't hear none of my counsel: they ignored all my warnings."

 

"Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices."

 

In Reference: "Therefore will they eat the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own tactics.”

 

"For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them."

 

In Reference: "For the turning away of the simple will kill them, and the wealth of fools will destroy them."

 

"But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil."

 

In Reference: "But whoever listens to me will live in safety and will be in peace from the fear of evil."
